Current music:Baby Mine - Allison Kraus (Mads and I were watching Dumbo before I had to go.)

Things have settled into a routine that’s so comfortable it’s not funny. Madison was away at ballet camp in New York City and is now convinced that is what she wants to do for a living. I’m a bit hesitant to ship her away, but if she still has the drive in a few years I can’t imagine saying no to her. Still, that’s a ways off and not something to really worry about. Avery is recovering well, and Geh is coming along nicely. We’re 14 weeks along, and Avery’s starting to show. We go in for an ultrasound Wednesday, a bit early but because of the accident, they want to make sure things are going well. Supposedly, it’ll be another two weeks before we can tell the sex but the lady we made the appointment with said they may be able to tell. Honestly, I want to know but I’m not sure what Avery wants and it’s ultimately up to her.

Married life is exactly how I expected it to be. Not much has changed, really, nor did I want it to. Avery’s gone back to playing nanny, though now it’s an unofficial role. I’m worried she’ll get bored with it, that she’ll miss work and start blaming me. We had a fight over all that, over getting a nanny or having Avery stop working so that she can watch Madison. In the end, Avery won out. I have an odd feeling that’s going to be happening a lot. The one really good thing about being married, though? We don’t have to worry about Madison catching us both in the same bed. There are no more pretenses now. Mum and Daddy get to be in the same room. We never kept our relationship from Mads, but I did try to protect her a little and we were careful about appearing to wake up in our own beds. Now Avery’s bed is a guest room, though I suppose it won’t be for long. Now that she’s out of her second trimester and not working, we actually have time to go house hunting. Now I just have to find time myself.

The whole Sotomayor thing has been a big pain in the ass. Hearings started today, which is a good way of saying 19 members of the Senate aren’t going to be in session today. I’ve been trying to catch as much of it as I can, in TV if I can’t be in the room but the National Defense Authorization Act for 2010 is up for consideration and I don’t want to miss much of that, either. Both things are big, though I suppose a lifetime appointment of a Supreme Court Justice is a far more important thing than the budget of the military for a year. Still, part of me is skeptical. I’m a Republican. We’re on the losing side. Even if every single one of us decided that it wasn’t a good idea, and some democrats joined us, we’d still lose. Part of me is tempted to throw it, to see how many of the Dems I can get to go to the dark side. Out front, Sotomayor just annoys me. She’s made too many questionable comments and though I’m supposed to hate her because of empathy or some shit like that, it’s actually the fact that she plays the race card so much that bothers me. Of course, I can never really say that. That would make me racist. It would make me seem like I’m against Hispanics, like I’m more of a horrible person than people already think I am. Who knows, though. I’m going to try and go into this with an open mind, forgetting my previous preconceptions.

That last sentence is the exact reason I admire and adore you so much.

Damn straight.

Speaking of, how's the 'straight' thing working for you now that I turned you to the dark side?

Cute, Senator. Very cute. I'm on my way out to twiddle my thumbs while waiting to make a presentation to a human right's group, but I'll try to catch you soon, if you really want to know?

Kyle and I went back and forth on the whole finding out thing...and then decided to find out because we're impatient or something. But I was so excited when the baby stopped looking like a gummi bear and more like a human being :-x Glad things are going well though!

Geh is SUPPOSED to look like an actual baby instead of a bean-sized alien at this one. I'm pretty damn pumped.
